The Hungarian People's Army:
Following the Second World War, Hungary became part of the Soviet sphere of influence. The independent Hungarian Armed Forces were
founded in 1948. From 1951, when it was established as the Hungarian People's Army, until its renaming in 1990, the armed forces were
predominantly equipped with Soviet-designed vehicles. However, products of the Hungarian vehicle industry, including the Csepel truck family,
PSZH and FUG, as well as vehicles manufactured in other Warsaw Pact member states, such as IFA, Robur, DAC and Tatra, were also adopted
in large numbers. For scale modellers, this is both good and bad news. The wide variety of vehicle types makes the subject especially
interesting and rewarding. On the other hand, many of these vehicles were absent from the catalogues of scale model manufacturers for
decades. Since its foundation in 2009, Balaton Modell has placed a strong focus on vehicles of the Warsaw Pact. Today, our product range
includes many of the most important vehicle types used by the Hungarian People's Army and its allied nations.
