The DET-250 was developed at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant. Its prototype was unveiled in 1956, and according
to some sources it is still in production today, while others state that production continued until 2015.
What makes the DET-250 different from most other bulldozers? It features a diesel-electric powertrain, an unusual
solution for a machine of its era. Why was this hybrid system chosen? The engineers were tasked with designing
a 250 hp bulldozer, but at that time the only available engine powerful enough was the legendary V-2 diesel engine,
best known for powering the T-34 medium tank. The drawback of the engine was its relatively short service life of
around 500 operating hours. How could its service life be increased dramatically? Engineers realized that if the
engine could operate under a nearly constant load, its lifespan could be extended to as much as 10,000 operating
hours. However, maintaining a constant load is virtually impossible in a bulldozer with a conventional mechanical
transmission. The solution was ingenious. Instead of driving the tracks mechanically, the diesel engine powers an
electric generator through a coupling, while electric traction motors drive the tracks. This unique diesel-electric
transmission significantly reduces load fluctuations on the diesel engine and greatly improves its service life. The
DET-250 became one of the workhorses of large-scale construction projects and open-pit mines throughout the
Soviet Union. Equipped with its large bulldozer blade, it is capable of moving up to 10 cubic metres of soil in a
single pass.
What's in the box:
Highly detailed resin parts
Photo-etched brass parts
Decal sheet included
Illustrated assembly instructions
Photos of the kit components can be found on the product page.
The resin and brass/nickel silver parts included in our kits should be assembled using cyanoacrylate (super glue).
Soak the included decals in water and carefully slide them from the backing paper onto the surface indicated in the
assembly instructions.
If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail or telephone. Our contact details can be found under the
"Information" menu.
Approximate finished model length: 19 cm
Recommended age 13 over.
Unassembled resin kit with brass (photoetched parts) parts and waterslide decals. Paint and glue are not included!
The attached drawings instructions help to assembly.
You can use sharp tools (Sniccer, jigsaw or electric mini drill with cutter disk, thick is max. 0,5-1mm.)
to take apart the parts from the resin blocks.
Please use careful, and note that this requires a little more experience,
such than to injection molded plastic kits!
Protect the resin parts from strong heat! (Strong sunshine, radiator, hot water, etc.)
Recommended glue for the resin parts is super glue.
If you have any further questions, please contact us by email. You can find our contact informations in the menu: "information".
